Fun Things to Do on 30A in the Winter

There’s never a bad season to vacation in South Walton Florida as it’s become a year-round destination.  The summer months are by far the most popular, however, there’s a growing segment of vacationers that prefer winter on 30A.  If you and your family are looking to escape the cold, there’s no better place for a winter getaway than the beaches of 30A Florida.

Although 30A is located in the northwest part of Florida, the weather is generally warm and pleasant during the winter months.  High daytime temperatures average around the middle 60s but can often be much warmer.  The skies are typically bright blue as the high humidity and low pressure systems of the summer are long gone.  To help you get started planning your vacation, we’ve compiled a list of fun things to do on 30A during the winter months so let’s get started…

Stand Up Paddle Board and Kayaking:Winter on 30A means Gulf water temperatures are cool (still warm enough to swim for some) and calm.  It’s a great time of year for standup paddle boarding and kayaking enthusiasts as the Gulf and lakes are smooth as glass.

Go Fishing:  Fishing along the beaches of 30A is world-class year round. Whether you want to cast off from a pier or a beach or book a fishing charter, you’re sure to have a blast. Winter is one of the best seasons to surf fish in South Walton for a couple reasons…  First, you’ll have the white sand beach pretty much to yourself and second, winter is when Pompano are in!  Most saltwater fishing enthusiasts know that Pompano are among the best fish to eat which makes winter surf fishing on 30A so much fun!  If the fish aren’t biting, consider taking a short drive to Destin, known as the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.”  Maybe some of the village’s good luck will rub off, and you’ll catch a big one.

30A Brewery Fun:  South Walton is home to several great micro breweries.  If you’re craving a tasty craft brew, you’ll have plenty of options.  Grayton Beer Company is one of the highlights; their taproom features a wall of over 20 unique beers, and their brewpub serves delicious food.  Idyll Hounds Brewing Company is another fantastic spot to stop for an artisan ale, and it’s right down the road from Grayton Beer Company’s taproom.  Another great option is to check out the Growler Garage in Dune Allen Beach.  It’s next door to Gulf Place 30A and Ed Walline Regional Beach Access.  They have a huge selection of Gulf Coast craft beers that you’re sure to enjoy in the sun!
