Escape to 30A Episode 7: Blue Mountain Beach, Florida
Blue Mountain Beach is a laid-back 30A community that features breathtaking natural beauty and prime beach access points. It’s located on the west side of the 30A corridor and neighbors Grayton Beach, Gulf Place, and Dune Allen Beach. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, fun boutiques, one legendary ice cream parlor, and much more in Blue Mountain Beach!
How Blue Mountain Beach Got Its Name
Blue Mountain Beach is somewhat of a South Walton hidden gem. If you blink while travelling along scenic Hwy 30A you might miss it! Blue Mountain Beach got it’s name from the Blue Lupine flowers that early Gulf Of Mexico sailors noticed growing from the white sand dunes. Another interesting fact is that Blue Mountain Beach features the highest elevation points along the entire Gulf Coast of Florida at 65 feet above sea level.
Sweet Treats & Fun Things To Do In Blue Mountain Beach
One thing is for sure, in Blue Mountain Beach there’s no shortage of great places to eat and fun things to do. Right at the intersection of South County Highway 83 and 30A you’ll run into the famous Blue Mountain Beach Creamery. It’s a staple in the community as locals and visitors alike love their homemade ice cream. It’s a great way to cool down after a sun soaked day at the beach. Located right next to Blue Mountain Beach Creamery, the Shake Shop offers fresh donuts and delicious coffee starting at 7:00 a.m. during the main summer season.
If warm treats and sweets are more your style, there’s a place for you too… After hearing that Blue Mountain Bakery is home to one of the best cinnamon rolls on 30A (along with many other things), I had to try it and trust me it did not disappoint! Upon entrance, through the doors of Blue Mountain Bakery, you’ll the smell the that sweet aroma and know you’re in the right spot.
Next door to the bakery in the High Point complex you’ll find “For the Health of It” neighborhood grocery store. It offers a wide variety of organic groceries and fresh Florida produce. They also have a juice bar that features delicious organic smoothies.
Delicious Blue Mountain Beach Restaurants
After filling up there, rent a bike from “Big Daddy’s Bike Shop” and cruise down 30A through Blue Mountain Beach. On you’re ride, you’ll notice a great selection of delicious food spots. Some of our favorite Blue Mountain Beach restaurants include but are not limited to; Blue Mabel Smokehouse & Provisions, Cowgirl Kitchen, Redds Pub, Redfish Taco, Local Catch Bar & Grill, Cafe Tango, and Basmati’s Asian Cuisine. One of my favorite pizza places on 30A is Johnny McTighe’s Irish Pub which is also located in Blue Mountain Beach. Finally, live music lovers need to check out Redd’s Pub as it’s a low-key 30A hidden gem venue.
Blue Mountain Beach Regional Beach Access #36 is one of the best ways to access the sugar-white as you’ll see in our video below…
